“Dare to Think for Yourself”
- Immanuel Kant, 1784

Brian Dailey’s Lone Wolf premiered at Karpuchina Gallery in Prague from May 24–26, 2024. Originally conceived in 1978 in Los Angeles, the performance remains strikingly relevant today, particularly in the age of social media. As The Social Dilemma (2020) illustrates, algorithms fuel echo chambers, reinforcing existing beliefs and suppressing independent thought. Lone Wolf confronts this reality, examining the tension between individuality and societal conformity.

At its core is a striking image: a lone wolf—symbolizing independent thinking—confined within a room. A narrow walkway encircles the space, compelling viewers to observe from the outside, mirroring how society isolates those who challenge dominant narratives. The performance highlights how nonconformists—like the lone wolf—are often feared, misunderstood, and marginalized, particularly in a digital landscape that rewards ideological uniformity and punishes dissent.

Accompanying the performance, a series of collage prints explore AI’s ethical and societal implications. While AI offers undeniable benefits, these works emphasize the urgency of safeguarding against unintended consequences. Together, Lone Wolf and its visual counterparts urge critical reflection on the forces shaping contemporary thought and the cost of resisting conformity.
